Born Super, the Next Generation
The ‘children of…’ have always fascinated the fashion industry. Even with so many 'children of' actors, musicians, and the like, currently dominating brand campaigns and runways, it is the offspring of the Supers that sit in a class of their own. Designers, photographers, and editors seem to register them differently, with a mix of nostalgia and reverence. It is difficult to overstate the attachment that the industry still feels to the vibrant, unabashed glamor of the late ’90s, and to the supermodels who anchored it.
So what could be more alluring than the Supers and their children working together? The Model CoOp is fortunate to represent some of the most iconic women from the industry, and we are taking a moment to showcase some of the beautiful projects they have collaborated on with their sons and daughters over recent years.
Paulina Porizkova is a model icon, an activist, and a mother of two. Although she has spent many years in the public eye, Paulina has managed to stay down-to-earth, being described as “ quiet and smart, taking it all in from a distance.” Although her children are more focused on academics than fashion, the younger of the two, Oliver, has appeared with his mother in the recently launched first issue of Vogue (Czech and Slovak Republic) photographed by Mikael Schultz. We asked Paulina what it was like to work with her son: “modeling is a physical job, and nothing is easier than being physically close to your child. Every touch and every look is utterly natural and comfortable”.
Oliver has also worked independently as a model for LOEWE as part of the brand’s advertising campaign for Fall Winter 2018. A series of photos, shot by Meisel, feature Oliver and others being gazed upon as they read. Academics and modeling collide, how perfect. The ever-grounded Paulina offers her sons a sound piece of advice on life, “live your life with purpose and love, striving for happiness is a crock.”
The women of the Le Bon family are no strangers to fashion or photography. In fact Yasmin and her daughters first modeled together in 1995. Amber Le Bon and Yasmin have collaborated to bring their rock ‘n’ roll style to campaigns for Monsoon and Sisley, as well as featuring on the cover of Harpers Bazaar, Taiwan, in 2016.
More recently Yasmin worked on the “Coat Connoisseurs” shoot with her other daughter Saffron Le Bon to promote the new season of outerwear for Marks & Spencer F/W 2018.
Both dynamic, svelte and statuesque, Pat Cleveland and her daughter Anna could be twins! It is no wonder that they love working together as their playful energy radiates from each image of the duo.
Pat and Anna first appeared in a shoot together when Anna was only 10 days old in 1989. Born into the world of fashion, being backstage and on shoots with her mother, it is no wonder modeling comes naturally to Anna.
Over the past few years, the two have collaborated on countless editorials, covers (Grazia Italia, Vogue Italia), and campaigns for brands such as Lanvin and, more recently, the David Webb ‘Family Jewels’ 2018 campaign that was lensed by Juergen Teller.
An equestrian and thoroughbred horse breeder, Esther De Jong and her son Oskar live on a ranch in Kentucky, where they work together on a daily basis. To celebrate this mother-son team, Tiffany & Co. featured them in their latest Generational campaign for Fall 2018.
Tatjana Patitz is never out of Vogue, literally. Peter Lindbergh, her long-time collaborator, photographed Tatjana and her son Jonah on their 200-acre ranch in California for Vogue US in 2012. Since then, Jonah has often been included in shoots with the supermodel, both in print and online.
Eugenia Silva is the mother of two beautiful boys, who are mirror images of herself. They live an idyllic life in Spain and have featured in editorial shoots with Eugenia, most recently for the Spanish magazine Della Repubblica in 2018.
Leilani Bishop with husband Jack Lube (also a model), and son Cassius live a charmed life in Amagansett working as models, as well as developing independent businesses. Leilani and Cassius recently collaborated with Ralph Lauren POLO on a 2018 campaign, shot by Scott Rudin, as well as in the book Mother + Child lensed by photographer Claiborne Swanson Frank, and published by Assouline.
“My son and I spend a lot of time in nature, which is truly our church. We speak a lot about the energy of the
universe and living in sync with the world and all of the species that inhabit it.” - Leilani Bishop.
VS Angel Daniella Pestova is a mother of three, and Canadian ingenue Lisa Cant a mother of two. ELLE Kids, Italy, have featured both women and their beautiful children as cover stars of the publication in the past. Apples really don’t fall too far from the tree.
